Primarily I consider myself to be an Economic and Social Historian, interested in the way people live and the impact of events on their lives. This is something that runs through each and every book I have written, regardless of whether book has a local theme or is one that is more diverse in its approach. Here I have divided my books by their subject: local history (Medway, Chichester and Portsmouth), naval infrastructure (Naval Dockyards and Naval Stores), naviers of the pre-colonial states of India together with the British, Russian and Ottoman Empires (Eighteenth Century Sea Power) and naval mutinies (Rebellion and Revolution at Sea).
